A successful Christian business man was growing old and knew it was

time to choose a successor to take over the business.

Instead of choosing one of his directors or his children, he decided to

do something different. He called all the young executives in his

company together.

He said, “It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I

have decided to choose one of you. “The young executives were

shocked, but the boss continued.”I am going to give each one of you a

SEED today - one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed,

water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have

grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that

you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO”

One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others,

received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story.

She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed.

Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown.

After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk

about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow. Jim kept

checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, four weeks,

five weeks went by, still nothing. By now, others were talking about

their plants, but Jim didn’t have a plant and he felt like a failure.

Six months went by–still nothing in Jim’s pot.

He just knew he had killed his seed.

Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing.

Jim didn’t say anything to his colleagues, however.

He just kept watering and fertilizing the soil -

He so wanted the seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company

brought their plants to the CEO for inspection. Jim told his wife that

he wasn’t going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest

about what happened. Jim felt sick at his stomach, it was going to be

the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was

right. He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he

was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives.

They were beautiful–in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on

the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him!

When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives.

Jim just tried to hide in the back.

“My, what great plants,

trees, and flowers you have grown,” said The CEO.

“Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!”

All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his

empty pot. He ordered the financial director to bring him to the front.

Jim was terrified. He thought,

“The CEO knows I’m a failure!

Maybe he will have me fired!”

When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to

his seed - Jim told him the story.

The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and

then announced to the young executives,

“Behold your next Chief Executive!

His name is Jim!”

Jim couldn’t believe it. Jim couldn’t even grow his

seed. How could he be the new CEO the others said?

Then the CEO said, “One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room

a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back

to me today.

But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead - it was not possible

for them to grow. All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and

plants and flowers.

When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another

seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and

honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one

who will be the new Chief Executive!”

If you plant honesty, you will reap trust

If you plant goodness, you will reap friends

If you plant humility, you will reap greatness

If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment

If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective

If you plant hard work, you will reap success

If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation

If you plant faith in Christ, you will reap a harvest

So, be careful what you plant now; it will determine what you will reap later.

How many zeros in a billion?

This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the
word ‘billion’ in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the ‘politicians’ spending
YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of it’s releases.

1.) A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

2.) A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

3.) A billion dollars ago was only
8 hours and 20 minutes,
at the rate our government
is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain…
let’s take a look at New Orleans …
It’s amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
asked Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS
to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number…
what does it mean?

1.) Well…. if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman, and child)
you each get $516,528.

2.) Or…. if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

3.) Or…. if you are a family of four…
your family gets $2,066,012.

There is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled me.
What in the world do leaping lords, French hens,
swimming swans, and especially the partridge who won’t come out
of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?

This week, I found out.

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were
not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone
during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.
It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning
plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each
element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality
which the children could remember.

-The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

-Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.

-Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.

-The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

-The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.

-The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

-Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit–Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

-The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

-Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit–Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.

-The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.

-The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

-The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles’ Creed.

So there is your history for today. This knowledge was shared with me and I found it interesting and enlightening and now I know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol…so pass it on if you wish.’

Merry (Twelve Days of) Christmas Everyone

These people NEVER GAVE UP:

As a young man, Abraham Lincoln went to war a captain and returned a private. Afterwards, he was a failure as a businessman. As a lawyer in Springfield, he was too impractical and temperamental to be a success. He turned to politics and was defeated in his first try for the legislature, again defeated in his first attempt to be nominated for congress, defeated in his application to be commissioner of the General Land Office, defeated in the senatorial election of 1854, defeated in his efforts for the vice-presidency in 1856, and defeated in the senatorial election of 1858. He later became the 16th President of the United States of America.

Winston Churchill failed sixth grade. He was subsequently defeated in every election for public office until he became Prime Minister at the age of 62. He later wrote, “Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never - in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never, Never, Never, Never give up.”

Sigmund Freud was booed from the podium when he first presented his ideas to the scientific community of Europe. He returned to his office and kept on writing.

Robert Sternberg received a C in his first college introductory-psychology class. His teacher commented that “there was a famous Sternberg in psychology and it was obvious there would not be another.” Three years later Sternberg graduated with honors from Stanford University with exceptional distinction in psychology, summa cum laude, and Phi Beta Kappa. In 2002, he became President of the American Psychological Association.

Charles Darwin gave up a medical career and was told by his father, “You care for nothing but shooting, dogs and rat catching.” In his autobiography, Darwin wrote, “I was considered by all my masters and my father, a very ordinary boy, rathe below the common standard of intellect.” Clearly, he evolved.

Thomas Edison’s teachers said he was “too stupid to learn anything.” He was fired from his first two jobs for being “non-productive.” As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” Edison replied, “I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”

Albert Einstein did not speak until he was 4-years-old and did not read until he was 7. His parents thought he was “sub-normal,” and one of his teachers described him as “mentally slow, unsociable, and adrift forever in foolish dreams.” He was expelled from school and was refused admittance to the Zurich Polytechnic School. He did eventually learn to speak and read. Even to do a little math.

Louis Pasteur was only a mediocre pupil in undergraduate studies and ranked 15th out of 22 students in chemistry.

Henry Ford failed and went broke five times before he succeeded.

R. H. Macy failed seven times before his store in New York City caught on.

F. W. Woolworth was not allowed to wait on customers when he worked in a dry goods store because, his boss said, “he didn’t have enough sense.”

When Bell telephone was struggling to get started, its owners offered all their rights to Western Union for $100,000. The offer was disdainfully rejected with the pronouncement, “What use could this company make of an electrical toy.” How many of you have a telephone today?

Rocket scientist Robert Goddard found his ideas bitterly rejected by his scientific peers on the grounds that rocket propulsion would not work in the rarefied atmosphere of outer space.

An expert said of Vince Lombardi: “He possesses minimal football knowledge and lacks motivation.” Lombardi would later write, “It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get back up.”

Babe Ruth is famous for his past home run record, but for decades he also held the record for strikeouts. He hit 714 home runs and struck out 1,330 times in his career (about which he said, “Every strike brings me closer to the next home run.”).

Hank Aaron went 0 for 5 his first time at bat with the Milwaukee Braves.

Stan Smith was rejected as a ball boy for a Davis Cup tennis match because he was “too awkward and clumsy.” He went on to clumsily win Wimbledon and the US Open…and eight Davis Cups.

Tom Landry, Chuck Noll, Bill Walsh, and Jimmy Johnson accounted for 11 of the 19 Super Bowl victories from 1974 to 1993. They also share the distinction of having the worst records of first-season head coaches in NFL history - they didn’t win a single game.

Johnny Unitas’s first pass in the NFL was intercepted and returned for a touchdown. Joe Montana’s first pass was also intercepted. And while we’re on quarterbacks, during his first season Troy Aikman threw twice as many interceptions (18) as touchdowns (9) . . . oh, and he didn’t win a single game. You think there’s a lesson here?

After Carl Lewis won the gold medal for the long jump in the 1996 Olympic games, he was asked to what he attributed his longevity, having competed for almost 20 years. He said, “Remembering that you have both wins and losses along the way. I don’t take either one too seriously.”

Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper editor because “he lacked imagination and had no good ideas.” He went bankrupt several times before he built Disneyland. In fact, the proposed park was rejected by the city of Anaheim on the grounds that it would only attract riffraff.

Charles Schultz had every cartoon he submitted rejected by his high school yearbook staff. Oh, and Walt Disney wouldn’t hire him.

After Fred Astaire’s first screen test, the memo from the testing director of MGM, dated 1933, read, “Can’t act. Can’t sing. Slightly bald. Can dance a little.” He kept that memo over the fire place in his Beverly Hills home. Astaire once observed that “when you’re experimenting, you have to try so many things before you choose what you want, that you may go days getting nothing but exhaustion.” And here is the reward for perseverance: “The higher up you go, the more mistakes you are allowed. Right at the top, if you make enough of them, it’s considered to be your style.”

After his first audition, Sidney Poitier was told by the casting director, “Why don’t you stop wasting people’s time and go out and become a dishwasher or something?” It was at that moment, recalls Poitier, that he decided to devote his life to acting.

When Lucille Ball began studying to be actress in 1927, she was told by the head instructor of the John Murray Anderson Drama School, “Try any other profession.”

The first time Jerry Seinfeld walked on-stage at a comedy club as a professional comic, he looked out at the audience, froze, and forgot the English language. He stumbled through “a minute-and a half” of material and was jeered offstage. He returned the following night and closed his set to wild applause.

After Harrison Ford’s first performance as a hotel bellhop in the film Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round, the studio vice-president called him in to his office. “Sit down kid,” the studio head said, “I want to tell you a story. The first time Tony Curtis was ever in a movie he delivered a bag of groceries. We took one look at him and knew he was a movie star.” Ford replied, “I thought you were spossed to think that he was a grocery delivery boy.” The vice president dismissed Ford with “You ain’t got it kid , you ain’t got it … now get out of here.”

Michael Caine’s headmaster told him, “You will be a laborer all your life.”

Charlie Chaplin was initially rejected by Hollywood studio chiefs because his pantomime was considered “nonsense.”

Decca Records turned down a recording contract with The Beatles with the evaluation, “We don’t like their sound. Groups of guitars are on their way out.” After Decca rejected the Beatles, Columbia records followed suit.

In 1954, Jimmy Denny, manager of the Grand Ole Opry, fired Elvis Presley after one performance. He told Presley, “You ain’t goin’ nowhere, son. You ought to go back to drivin’ a truck.”

Beethoven handled the violin awkwardly and preferred playing his own compositions instead of improving his technique. His teacher called him “hopeless as a composer.” And, of course, you know that he wrote five of his greatest symphonies while completely deaf.

Van Gogh sold only one painting during his life. And this, to the sister of one of his friends, for 400 francs (approximately $50). This didn’t stop him from completing over 800 paintings.

Leo Tolstoy flunked out of college. He was described as both “unable and unwilling to learn.” No doubt a slow developer.

Louisa May Alcott, author of Little Women, was encouraged to find work as a servant by her family.

Emily Dickinson had only seven poems published in her lifetime.

18 publishers turned down Richard Bach’s story about a “soaring eagle.” Macmillan finally published Jonathan Livingston Seagull in 1970. By 1975 it had sold more than 7 million copies in the U.S. alone.

21 publishers rejected Richard Hooker’s humorous war novel, M*A*S*H. He had worked on it for seven years.

27 publishers rejected Dr. Seuss’s first book, To Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street.

Jack London received six hundred rejection slips before he sold his first story.

Let’s end with Woody Allen: “I don’t want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it through not dying. Eighty percent of success is showing up.”

—————

Is there a message here? YES! Absolutely!

Don’t ever give up. Don’t let others stop you from achieving success in life. Keep on chuggin’ ! Never ever stop. Don’t quit.

1.GROW DOWN
Colossians 2:7 Paul says we need to be “rooted and built up….strengthened in the faith”
Romans 8:39 ” nothing will be able to separate us from the Love of God in Christ Jesus
our Lord”
Ephesians 4:14 tells us to “no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves,
and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.”

2.GROW UP
God created you to move in an upward direction, not a downward spiral. Go on to the
next level. Leave the status quo and reach upward to a higher place. Healthy growth is
upward. Parents are to bring their children up, not put them down.

3.GROW IN
Theodore Roosevelt said “If you are not actively becoming the person you want to be,
you are becoming the person you don’t want to be.” We need character growth in our
moods, attitudes and temperament. Who we are is more important than what we do.

4.GROW OUT
Grow beyond yourself. Tolstoy said “Life is a place of service.” We are to live the
extended life, reaching out to others in service. We grow as we serve, and as we make an
investment of ourselves in others.

5. GROW UNIQUELY
Proverbs 22:6 instructs us to “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old
he will not turn from it.” Train means to nurture and guide a child according to his/her
unique bent. We shouldn’t compare ourselves to others. 2 Corinthians 10:12 says, “We do not dare classify or compare ourselves with someone who commend themselves.
When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves,
they are not wise.”

6.GROW TOGETHER
Jesus sent His disciples out by twos to conduct their ministry. Christianity is community.
Augustine said, He cannot have God as his Father, who does not have the church as his
mother.” Every man needs four men in his life: a Paul to mentor him, a Timothy to
disciple him, a Barnabas to encourage him, and a Jonathan to be a true friend.

7.GROW RIGHT
Newly planted trees and plants need to be tied to a stake in the ground so they will grow
straight instead of crooked. Are your stakes Christ, your family, mentors and the Bible?
Tie yourself to these stakes so you will grow in the right direction. II Timothy 2:15 tells
us we should “rightly divide the word of truth.” Make sure you get the correct training.

8.GROW SLOWLY
God is never in a hurry! He took six days to create the cosmos when He could have
done so with one word. Growth takes time. Most of the time when we are praying for a
miracle, we should be praying for maturity. Miracles happen quickly, maturity slowly, so
we prefer miracles. Be patient.

9.GROW STEADY
Pace yourself. Running long distances is based on finding your own pace and sticking to
it. Life is not a sprint, it is a marathon. Hebrews 12:1 says, “Let us run with perseverance
the race marked out for us.” Keep pressing on. Practice the spiritual disciplines of
prayer, meditation of Scripture, worship, giving and service, and you will continue to grow.

10.GROW IN LOVE
Ephesians 4:16 says, “The whole body…grows and builds itself up in love.” All true
spiritual growth is growth in love. We grow in a deeper understanding of God’s love,
and we grow in our capacity to love others even as God loves us. Philippians 1:6 says,
Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to
completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Keep growing.

These thought from a book, Ten Steps Toward a Better Life.

Since I’ve been working online I can’t help but notice that there seem to be “two” types of attitudes in the “work-at-home” arena.

Here are the two attitudes I have come to see …

The Wrong Attitude:

The people with the wrong attitude want to make money online, but they don’t want to “work” at all. In fact, they act as if they are allergic to work or anything “resembling” work. They know nothing of putting in an 8-hour-day building their online business. In fact, they want their sponsor or “anyone” to magically make them a full-time income. Not only that, but they will even badmouth sponsors who “don’t” make them enough money to suit them or put people in their downline fast enough — calling their sponsors deadbeats, etc. Maybe you’ve heard the term. They will also run around saying “this program doesn’t WORK”, “that opportunity doesn’t WORK”, etc. When what they “really” mean is that THEY don’t work :-) It doesn’t matter how good the opportunity is, they won’t make money at it. Why? Because “work at home” to them shouldn’t include “work”. They won’t even “try” to learn how to bring members in. Instead, they will run from program to program that offers “spillover”, “free downline members”, etc. Just “try” finding one of them in a program that doesn’t offer something like this. You won’t. They would never join it, because they know it would require work on their part. These people can often be seen in the gossip forums calling everything a scam. Sometimes they even run the forum.

The Right Attitude:

The people with the right attitude also want to make money online but are willing to do everything in their power to learn to do so. They will soak up information on: advertising, getting the word out, list-building, downline building, etc. When they see an opportunity that offers “spillover” they will see it as a way to “help” them build their downline — not as a way to sit back and do nothing. Instead of always wondering what their sponsor is going to do for “them”, they are the ones trying to bring people in so “they” can help people in the downline to build. And one of the best traits of the people with the right attitude is that no matter “how” bad a week was “sales-wise”, they will still get up and go for it just as hard the next week. They don’t give up! These are the people who make it online. They end up building full-time incomes and grow from there.

Do you have the right attitude? Are you really serious about making a full-time income online? I hope you are! Working full-time from home is such a blessing! It’s worth working hard for.

Nick Koutroulis

Let me tell you a story.

Mark Yarnell, minister in a small town in Texas,

was headed for bankruptcy and just about to lose his car and
home. He looked for a way out and discovered Network Marketing.
Luckily, he had a wise sponsor. The sponsor gave Mark “THE PROMISE”:
THIS BUSINESS CAN SET YOU FREE FINANCIALLY IN ONE TO THREE YEARS.
But he also gave him “THE PRICE”: TO SUCCEED YOU WILL HAVE TO FACE
AND CONQUER FOUR MAJOR ENEMIES. Mark said, “It’s a deal!”

He then invited 200 friends over to his house to watch a video. 80
said, “No, not interested.” Mark had encountered
ENEMY #1: Rejection.

He thought, “No problem, my sponsor warned me about that.
I have 120 people still coming over.”
Guess what? 50 didn’t show up. He had just met
ENEMY #2: Deception.

Mark thought, “No problem, my sponsor warned me about that. I have
70 people who watched the tape.” Guess what? 57 said, “Not
interested.” he had just encountered
ENEMY #3: Apathy.

Undaunted, Mark thought, “No problem, 13 people signed up.”
Guess what? 12 of them dropped out of the business shortly.
ENEMY #4: Attrition had left Mark with just one serious associate. But
Mark had paid the price and succeeded. To this day, that single
distributor earns Mark over $50,000 per month.

Some years ago, 20/20 did a feature story on Amway. They spent 19
minutes interviewing the whiners and complainers; several
distributors who had failed, and showed their garages full of
products they couldn’t sell. During the last minute of the show, one
of the most successful Amway distributors was interviewed in front
of his palatial home. He was asked, “This business has obviously
worked for you. What’s your secret?” He replied, “There is no
secret. I simply showed the plan to 1200 people. 900 said, “No” and
only 300 people signed up. Out of those 300, only 85 did anything at
all. Out of those 85, only 35 were serious and out of 35, 11 made me
a millionaire.” Like Mark Yarnell, he worked through the numbers.

Here’s the lesson: Your success is directly related to the degree to
which you are willing to work to find others like yourself who are
committed to succeed. Mark Yarnell’s odds were 1 out of 200. The
Amway distributor’s were 11 out of 1200.

Would you be willing to go through 200 people to find the one who
will make you $50,000 a month? Or go through 1200 people to become a
millionaire? I hope you will. It’s easier when you know the odds up
front.
But there’s the catch: You have your own set of odds and you won’t
know what they are until after you’ve succeeded. So if you’ve gone
through 50 or 100 people and you haven’t found one serious person
yet, you can either give up and assume the business doesn’t work, or
recognize that you are working through your own numbers.

The race is not always to the swift…But to those who keep running.

That is determination.
